Economic Advantages of (and Common Misconceptions About) Alternative Energies

Whether we like it or not, economics play a large role in the way we structure our lives and a good value does not necessarily indicate that something is good for the environment. This is well displayed in our love for the SUV. With fuel prices below $2 per gallon, our two-ton (or more) behemoths seemed like a bargain. In many cases, people ignored the long term costs and bought vehicles which required more materials and maintenance, and which produced more carbon emissions while using more fuel, sacrificing the safety of themselves as well as others. A smaller or lighter vehicle in many cases would have served these people even better. This is why we are going to discuss the long term costs and savings -- both environmental and economic -- of heating, cooling, power generation, lighting and much more.
